1. Get lost in the dunes.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Empire was named The Most Beautiful Place in America by Good Morning America in 2011. Take some of your summer vacation to explore the many miles of sandy beaches, bluffs, and forests located here!

2. Visit the Michigan Iron Industry Museum.

Iron is an industry incredibly important to Michigan’s history. Discover the story of Michigan’s rich iron mining history and its incredible impact on our state with a visit to the Iron Industry Museum.

3. Adventure on the Great Lakes Circle Tour.

Take a road trip with your family and friends along this scenic road system. It connects all of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River!

4. Explore the gardens.

Explore the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden at Michigan State University. This garden has something for every member of the family. Take in the sights of the gorgeous flowers, dance with the wind chimes, and more!

5. Hit the trails.

There are more than 100 biking trails in Michigan to go out and explore! Gather your friends and family for a day of adventure and hit the trails!

6. Witness the waterfalls.

There are nearly 200 waterfalls throughout Michigan’s upper peninsula. Lace up your hiking shoes and hit the trails to explore as many as you can!

7. Catch a water show.

Visit the Grand Haven Musical Fountain for a one of a kind water show. This synchronized water and light show is accompanied by music of all types. Each show is 25 minutes long and plays daily at dusk from Memorial Day through Labor Day, as well as Fridays and Saturdays in May and September.

8. Movie night on a warship.

Did you know that you can not only go aboard the USS LST 393, but you can also catch a movie aboard its deck? While the 2017 schedule has yet to be released, here’s some great info on what year’s past looked like!

9. Go to the beach.

Nothing says summertime more than the beach. Head on over to the shores of the many lakes Michigan has to offer. Build sandcastles. Bask in the sun. Go for a swim. Enjoy the great outdoors!

10. Explore the history of Detroit.

Detroit is a city rich with history. Take one of the “behind the scenes” historic tours, visit the Great Lakes Museum, learn about the Underground Railroad, and feast your eyes on the city’s first automobile.

11. Celebrate Christmas.

Christmas in the summertime? Yep! Visit Little Bavaria in Frankenmuth where every day is Christmas! With fun festivals, eclectic shopping, indoor waterparks, rich history, and more, Little Bavaria has something for everyone!

12. Dance and jam by the Detroit riverfront.

The Detroit riverfront always has something fun going on! This September 1-4, you can enjoy the Detroit Jazz Festival, drum line competition, art walk, and more.

13. Climb Mount Arvon.

Mount Arvon is Michigan’s highest point, standing at 1,979.238 feet above sea level. Reach the summit for breath taking views of Lake Superior, and leave a note in the famous Michigan mailbox.

14. Head to Drummond Island Township Park.

Drummond Island Township Park has plenty to see and do! Spend a few days there camping. Go up for the day and explore one of the many hiking trails. Relax on the beach. You can’t go wrong!

15. Explore the state capitol.

Participate in a guided tour of the state capitol in Lansing for some great history lessons on politics in Michigan. You can even see inside the House and Senate galleries for a first hand look at where laws are made that impact your life each day.

16. Visit Sanders Candy Factory.

Sander’s Candy Factory has been satisfying Michigan’s sweet tooth since 1875! Visit this summer and taste some of Michigan’s greatest treats!

17. Play disc golf.

Did you know that Michigan has more than 286 disc golf courses? That means no matter where you live in our beautiful state, you’re likely never far from a course. Find a list of disc golf courses here and head outside with your loved ones!

18. Visit the Au Sable Light Station.

Built in 1874, the Au Sable is one of Michigan’s most notable lighthouses. It’s listed on the national register of historic places. It was built to warn mariners of the dangerous reef off of Au Sable Point. Guided tours are offered in July and August.

19. Visit the Calvin Ecosystem Preserve.

Calvin College has a beautiful campus located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Visit the campus to learn about the sciences and explore the natural world in the Calvin Ecosystem Preserve.

20. Explore a shipwreck.

Visit Alpena’s Great Lakes Maritame Heritage Center to explore a life-size replica shipwreck! There’s plenty to see and do!
