Benefits of Chiropractic for Kids
Chiropractic is a field of study that is often misunderstood. Many people refuse to consider chiropractic because they are unfamiliar with the techniques and philosophy that goes into chiropractic care. Unlike other fields of treatment where the focus is on alleviating various symptoms through medication, diet, or exercise (and very rarely a healthy balance of all three), chiropractic takes a different approach where the whole body is considered. At Pure Health Clinic, Drs. Chris and Krystal Hohn believe that chiropractic care should treat the whole body.
The Philosophy
The philosophy of chiropractic care is that everything, diet, exercise, and the physical body’s current state, contributes to the well-being of the patient. This goes for patients of all ages. For instance, a person experiencing pain in their shoulder from a sports injury may get a prescription to manage that pain or perhaps a heat pack to place on their shoulder and soothe it for a while—but what happens when the pain inevitably comes back? It will come back because the problem itself was not treated (the injury), they only paid mind to the symptom (the pain).
Chiropractic care uses an all around approach. Chiropractors do not write prescriptions for traditional medication. Instead, they sit down with every patient, discuss their symptoms, and discuss their medical history. They also take diet, exercise, and lifestyle into account so they can begin forming a realistic picture of how this patient lives and what truly needs to change to help them overcome whatever problem they are facing.
For instance, if the same injured athlete were to come to a chiropractor for their shoulder pain, it would not be a simple one-time visit for an adjustment. The chiropractor would first do their due diligence and use their experience with the body and the industry so they can understand other contributing factors. Rather than focusing on the symptoms of their shoulder pain, the chiropractor will consider their lifestyle and diet to help them overcome the injury and avoid pain in the future.
The guiding philosophy of chiropractic care is that, when the body is out of alignment, nothing functions at its full capacity. By aligning the body and improving nutrition and exercise, the patient will find their energy, moods, and overall wellness improve. This whole body approach is what makes chiropractic care so effective for a variety of issues.
Who Is It For?
Since chiropractic care focuses on the whole body and the person’s day-to-day life to help them continue being healthy and avoid injury, it’s not simple a “drop in for an adjustment” solution like many people think. Again, chiropractic care looks at the whole picture while other “one stop” forms of treatment only focus on the symptoms and have the patient coming back again and again each time a new symptom arises. This approach is not a long-term solution and, in the long-term, it ends up being much more costly, difficult, and unpleasant.
Chiropractic care shouldn’t be looked at as something a person seeks out once they’re experiencing symptoms or pain. Instead, it should be sought out for anyone who feels they need to get their body into alignment. Unfortunately, that demographic includes most people of today’s world who are too busy to workout, too busy to eat right, and ultimately too misguided by all the mis-information, crash diets, and unhealthy habits being thrown their way.
Chiropractic Is Custom
Chiropractic care should really be seen as a whole family solution, but it does not take a one-size-fits-all approach. In fact, if a person were to bring in their entire family for a consultation, each member would get an informed, custom plan based on their individual needs, diet, and lifestyle. For instance, an older women may get assistance balancing her hormones, controlling her diet to avoid weight gain, and finding a simple exercise plan to relieve her stress and keep her healthy. Her young child may receive recommendations on getting active outside, limiting television time, and eating a balanced meal at least two-to-three times a day.
The recommendations a patient receives from their chiropractor is not based on age, gender, or activity level alone. Drs. Chris and Krystal Hohn will typically devote the first one or two sessions to solely discussing with the individual and getting a full view before they make any recommendations at all. This is so they can begin crafting a completely custom solution, and this solution will adapt over time to fit the person’s growing needs.
For Children
Chiropractic care for children can be considered an essential part of development. Children grow at such a rapid pace, and take so many tumbles, that it is easy for misalignments to occur in the spine. Drs. Chris and Krystal Hohn know that chiropractic care for kids can help them live a healthy, active lifestyle. Chiropractic is proven to help improve posture, regain focus, provide better sleep, and so much more for kids!
Being a healthy child and growing into a healthy young adult is also dependent on a great balance of nutrition, exercise, and full-body alignment. All of these things are within Dr. Chris and Krystal Hohn’s realm of knowledge, and with regular visits, a parent will be putting their child on track to a long and healthy life. It’s the whole body approach that makes chiropractic care so important and effective for all ages, whether they are currently experiencing the symptoms of a misaligned body or not, starting their care routine sooner rather than later will help them avoid injury and pain all together.
